What is Melissa Oil ?

Properties & Uses:
Calming *Sleep *Spring *

Melissa essential oil is pale yellow in color and is steam distilled from the leaves, stems, and flowering tops of the lemon balm plant. It has a light, delicate lemon aroma that is captivating and soothing. It is an expensive oil because it takes such a lot of plants to yield a small amount of essential oil. (Be aware, because of the high cost, this oil can be adulterated with lemongrass and citronella oils).

Melissa essential oil is beneficial to anxiety, depression, and headaches. It has calming actions on the nervous, digestive, and respiratory systems.

It blends well with the citrus oils, and geranium, chamomile, rose, and frankincense. Melissa is a key essential oil to use in a cold sore lip balm formula, as it is known for it's ability to help heal cold sores and herpes lesions.
